Prayer Party – report

On the second Thursday of each month, instead of the Vicarage small group, we gather at the church for a ‘prayer party’ … we share a meal together, and then spend time in prayer and praise.

Each month someone organises a simple meal for 6pm, and we aim to gather for prayer from 7pm, though it’s often a little later, since we enjoy our time together as we eat 🙂 This year our times of prayer will be focused on praying for revival, in our church and local community, in response to our verse of the year:

Unless the Lord builds the house,
it’s builders labour in vain.
Psalm 127:1

As we began our time of prayer this month, Revd Tim shared a few thoughts with us, saying how prayer begins with God and focuses on him throughout – his purpose, his character, his acts – and asked us to remember the 5 Cs …

Commit – decide to meet regularly to pray for the growth of the church

Connect – and pray for the wider community

Concentrate – on five people you want to find faith in Jesus

Communicate – be ready to share stories of what the Lord has done in your life, and in answer to prayer

Cover – all our worship, our Sunday services, small groups and other activities in prayer

He then shared four things to pray, each based on a verse from the Bible …

~for hearts that are ready to receive and obey God’s word (Luke 8:11-15)
~for eyes to be opened to the reality of Jesus (2 Corinthians 4:4)
~for ears to hear the word of God (Matthew 16:16)
~for mouths to confess Jesus as Lord (Romans 10:9)

We then spent some time in prayer and worship, each suggesting a song or reading a Bible passage as we thought appropriate … a very special time of fellowship together in God’s presence.

Our next Prayer Party will be on Thursday, February 8th, 6pm for food, 7pm for prayer … everyone is welcome, whether you are a member of a small group or not … come and join us as we share fellowship over a meal and pray for God to challenge and change our church and community through Christ.
