And the results are in! We are happy to announce that we have agreed on a name for our new women’s group, Women at the Table (or WATT for short)! We meet on the last Sunday of every month, 5pm at the Vicarage, to discuss topics of interest from a biblical viewpoint, led by members of the group.
We met for the second time yesterday, to eat scones, drink tea and to discuss sexuality and faith, led by Annemarie.
We began by looking at what the Bible says about sex and relationships, in particular same sex attraction SSA.
See Genesis 19:5, Judges 19:22, Leviticus 18:22, 20:13, Romans 1:26-27, 1 Corinthians 6:9, 1 Timothy 1:8-10, Genesis 2:24, 1 Corinthians 7:1-4, Matthew 19:4-6, Mark 10:6-9 (each in the context of the chapter or story)
Then we asked/answered three questions …
Why does God care who I sleep with?
Is sexual orientation a sin?
How do we as Christians address SSA?
It was an interesting, lively and useful discussion. We concluded by looking at five ways in which church can support those for whom this is of personal significance …
Make it easy to talk about
Remember that church is family
Deal with biblical models of masculinity and femininity, rather than cultural stereotypes
Provide good pastoral support (see this article for one suggestion!)
We meet next on Sunday, July 31st, 5pm at the Vicarage … make a note of the date in your diary 🙂
