God of compassion, whose Son was a refugee in Egypt, we pray for all fleeing war and violence, turmoil and poverty. Give them strength for the journey and courage in the face of adversity and setbacks. Sustain them with a knowledge of your compassion and with glimpses of your grace.
And grant to those who must greet and care for them grace, compassion and understanding. When tempers are frayed, grant calm; when supplies are short grant patience and equity, and when distress is overwhelming, grant a vision of your love.
May all who receive these travellers, Lord, see in them the face of Jesus, who suffered and died that we might live. Amen.
