This month hundreds of thousands of people around the world who USED to go to church, will be going BACK to church. Why? Simply because a friend or neighbour invites them, and they are made to feel welcome.
Back to Church Sunday is now the largest single local-church invitational initiative in the world. It is based on the simplest and shortest step in evangelism – that we should invite someone we already know to something we love; invite our friend to our church.
The initial focus was to invite ‘back’ those who used to attend, but we want to ensure that anyone who doesn’t currently attend can be guaranteed an especially warm welcome.
Why are we bothering? Because the church is not just for us Christians. When Jesus gave the disciples the Great Commission, it was not to set up churches and stay in them. Instead, he said the job of Christians is to be his witnesses in Jerusalem, throughout Judea and Samaria and to the ends of the earth (Acts1:8).
So – churches are for everybody – for those who believe in Jesus Christ, and for those who want to know a bit more about Christianity. If this means you, please come along on 25 September – we guarantee you a warm welcome!
Back to Church Sunday this year is Sunday, September 25th … can you think of anyone you know who used to come to church but doesn’t come any more? Or who needs to come to church and is looking for an excuse? Or a friend who’s been asking questions about your faith? All over the country, on September 25th churches will be inviting people to ‘Come back to church’ …
