At our Christingle service on Sunday,Rev Tim used this giant Christingle to share the story of Jesus’ birth. Numbers were low because of the snow and ice, but those that came were given a Christingle pack and an orange, to make their own Christingle for Christmas! At the end of the service, the lights went out and we sat in silence … it was a beautiful moment of stillness in the midst of the chaos that is Christmas, and focussed us once again on the ‘reason for the season’ … Jesus, our saviour Immanuel!
And just in case you don’t know …
WHAT DOES THE CHRISTINGLE MEAN?
The orange represents the world that God made for us.
The cocktail sticks are for the four seasons and the sweets and fruit remind us of all the good food the earth produces for us.
The red ribbon is for the blood of Jesus and reminds us that he loves us so much he was willing to come as a baby, and when he grew up he chose to die on the cross for our sins.
And the candle tells us that Jesus is the light of the world …
Jesus said … I am the light of the world.
Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness,
but will have the light of life.
